April 11, 1970: Apollo 13 blasted off on a mission to the moon that was disrupted by an explosion that crippled the spacecraft. It was necessary to continue the flight to orbit the moon, to secure momentum to return safely to earth. THAT was a nail-biter! Apollo landed safely in the Pacific on April 17.
