Lawn care 101

So why not yellow clover?

It looks like a clover. It is called Black Medic.
A little research costs nothing but a little time.
Get your lawn aerated this year.
While I did not start this post as an advertisement, the above link did bring to mind the one process in lawn care that should be included in any lawn care program; core aeration. Speaking of that if you spend money taking care of your lawn; water is essential to a healthy lawn. TURN ON THE SPRINKLER!

Think about it...

The opinions expressed in this article do not reflect the opinions of Pirate Named Neo® or its staff.
But really give it a thought, instead of paying you are now making money.  Actually is a "no brainer."  75 or so years chasing, arresting some, locking up others and still, if my desire is strong enough I can find some. Did we not learn in the 30's if you make something illegal and people still want that item; it can be found. No taxes involved; being illegal your average Joe does not set up shop. Someone is going to make a profit. This is where the the cartels come in. Are you familiar with the name Al Capone? Well, lets dig our heels in and fight this so called drug war. The expenses cover the entire gamut. Control, investigators, arrests, court, and lock up just to name a few. All because this plant has "mind altering" effects. Should we throw catnip into the mix of "schedule A" drugs? Let's say we look at this in a different light. Drugs are a community/social problem, not a legal problem. Typically a "crime" is something the hurts and or costs money to other people. For one, drugs don't seem to fit this profile. The "need" for a drug may cause crime but that is really another issue. However, marijuana is not and I will repeat "Not an addictive substance". Too many studies do back this statement. Really, think about it; using taxes to help keep an addict satisfied makes more sense than using tax dollars to fight a losing battle. Getting off track here though. Is Colorado falling apart? As I last heard life is still pretty good there. And you can actually get a Rocky Mountain High without breaking the law.

Crazy Games

Crazy games... facebook has a ton of them. Was trying my hand at Mafia Wars but got sorta bored with that, went back to just being a Pirate. Now this is a cute little game. MsNeo has been doing this for some time now, and did spark a small interest in me. Its sorta funny you prepare and serve food for the customers, I think its just down right cute. Anyway, I know I say I'm not all that into games, I just thought I would give a few of em a try, this one seems pretty fun. A waste of time sure, but still fun.

sunday 11/1 /09

Well here we are on Sunday morning again.
Let's see, whats new? well life, each day is a new beginning. After I was in that terrible car crash in 78 I didn't expect to make it to 35 and now at 47 I think I just may last forever, sort of a non biodegradable substance. But that aside, things are good here in Pirates little cubby,  I work, come home and rest etc and start anew in the morning. Well I sit here listening to some electric blues and life is just great!
Church was great, fit right in with my current situation, as the good in life is worth waiting for and such. Was very motivating if nothing else. I do tend to be a rather impatient man, and need to slow things down just a little.

Yea did my grocery shopping today, no big deal, very uneventful.

Well time to get working on that roast, pork sirloin this week, never new you could get sirloin in pork, always thought that was like a beef only cut of meat. Is there also a pork T-bone?

I even called my x wife to wish her a happy birthday, it was like I called her up to tell her that she was ugly, I mean, no response at best. I expected a little heart felt thank you, I lived with her for 10 years and she did mother our child; something had to be right for part of that time!
Well I guess that's why she's my x and not my wife.

Bengals on a bye week, so the games are not that interesting, I would like to see the Eagles game, but its not being televised here, just the more pertinent conference games, like Baltimore and the Indy game.

Were no man has been, well almost (Phoenix)

I thought the Spirit Mars Rover was stuck in some soft soil, apparently either they were able to find some solid ground or it doesn't really matter. This is a shot of the mound informally known as 'Von Braun'. The rover is on its way there for the usual investigative work it was sent to Mars for.

Now here's some cheese for thought; How long is a Sol in Earth time? and wouldn't time be different on Mars, as minutes and seconds are based on the size of the Earth, its rotation and speed? On Earth a day is 24.25 hours. A Sol in Earth measures is 24 hours 39 minutes 35.244 seconds. Time itself would be universal, but the units would be different based on the planet you are on. Thinking about that brings to light, how would you measure a Lunar day? And say you were born on Mars; the year is longer since it takes longer to orbit the Sun, so your life expectancy on Mars would be a smaller number but not any shorter than it is on Earth. If interplanetary/galactic exploration is to continue would it be wise to have a "non-Earth based time measure?
I do suggest reading this for more information, but as it is Wikopedia leave room for false information. It is a very interesting read.

Crazy

Funny how reading blogs will bring back thoughts of long ago. Being said thank you Psyconym.

Long ago in a galaxy far far away... I had a short lived relationship with my 1st wife. Young, dumb, inexperienced or what ever the reason. I can say now I was running. I wanted life to be ok again. I had the last of many arguments with my father. This particular argument ended in me saying, "well fine, than I don't live here anymore!"

This was the day after I had met Debbie at a wonderful Rock n Roll Club, etc etc...

Well actually I am diving way out of the topic here, back to point...

While living with Deb I went through a slew of jobs, being I was unemployed at the time. Some of the worst jobs you can find are at the local "Industrial Temp" agent.

The Great P&G
In a packing mistake P&G made for the first of quite a few assignments through the temp service. Call it a reproduction line. The skid of boxes come in, one crew breaks open the packing sending the boxes to the next crew. There the cartons are opened, pulling 12 boxes out and sent to the next crew, I was in this one. The individual boxes of Nivia hand cream or what ever the product was, are individually opened and the cap is tightened. On goes the other way till the cases are packed up on a skip again. Part of the great machine to repack items. Wasn't so bad, 1st shift, easy work no heavy lifting I could do this for a bit, well that was only a 4 day assignment, I went lean on that week.

or what about this one:
One 'assignment' I remember was to prepare a 21 year shut down warehouse to be leased out again. I scrapped an inch and a half of caked dust off the floor for a week that seemed to be an eternity; also swept and mopped. This is complete by Friday and the foreman instructs me to climb to the top of a 3 story scaffold with a puddy scraper in hand to remove the broken panes of the skylight. As I push left the entire scaffold moves right. I see my life flash before my eyes, (I decided I was not going to lose my life at $4.50 an hour) I graciously climb back down to the floor, ask foreman, "Is there anything else I can do?" When he answered no, I handed him my time card and he signed me out.

Well there are other war stories but what I really meant to talk bout was shift.
As I started my youthful life a nothing, maybe 2 yrs college behind me and left school, I tried various jobs and the worst thing I came across was working other than first shift. At first it was 2nd shift 3-11. It did not seem all that bad at first till it became old; me leaving for work about the time Deb got home from school (she was going to com. college). Things got real bad ... well that's another post.

I just felt like my life was surreal while on 2nd shift and it got more bizarre when I moved to 3rd shift. It makes you feel so much like a machine or tool or part of a terrible monster. You clock out as the replacements clock in day by day by day. You start to feel used, almost un-human.
2nd shift I felt like I was living to work rather than working to live. Clock in was mid afternoon and "lunch" hours (1/2 hour as we all know) was about my normal dinner time with one 15 min break before. Another 15 min break and then time to go home, about the time my wife was going to bed. What! I can't sleep now I just got off work, need to wind down, snack, have a couple drinks... Actually a "friend" of mine I knew from a few temp assignments before was doing my job* while I was away at work (he would sleep over, and he and Deb were ... well you know) Looking back, 2nd shift seems like it would work for a single person, sleep in till early afternoon, do your 8 and get off just about the time bar and club activity is getting good.
3rd shift didn't turn my life so crazy* but still, I was working while the rest of the world was sleeping and the rest of the world was working while I was sleeping. Sorta crazy trying to get to sleep at about 10 or 11 am. Waking up at 9ish to get ready to go to work while the rest of the world was sitting down for the evening. It just didn't work to hang with people, (most of the world) that didn't work other than 1st shift. You work your life around your work all week and the weekend comes, you square up with all the regular people you know and get on the weekend shift- and all changes about 9 pm Sunday night. *Actually it doesn't get much crazier than that.

So anyhow that was back in my bounce back days, when things didn't mean so much, thrown from the horse just get back up. Did lead me to find some real gainful employment.

look ma, no cords

ok, had a big hoot about this the other day. A somewhat friend comes in and acts like my computer and my network is his and he wants a wireless network, and I tell you my hard wire router has been more than perfect for more than 4 years now. You might say I was a bit peeved with him. I understood the thing was his daughter lives here, yea this is MsP's ex. So MsP talks with me got my shorts unbunched, so to speak and I see the point My computer is the only desktop still here, and 2 laptop computers, yea wireless is the way. So he comes over again tonight to install a wireless router; hard wired to my desktop (as the router sits right over here) another desktop, at the side of my desk (so I lied, I have 2 desktops) and 2 wireless connections. I am impressed so far. Where was my head at the other day when I got all mad about this router (which doesn't belong to me) being installed on my... yea I said my network. Guess its an ownership thing, title to the car, its mine, the network thing is a mine thing, and having alien hardware on my (yea said my again) network... well anyhow, long as no one pulls the title deal and wants it back I can do this. In my bull headed state I did order a Linksys wireless from Amazon. I just like the feeling of ownership my computer and network gives me and I like to be responsible for hardware and connection. Must be an Irish thing or somewhat.

These wireless routers don't let rain and storms interfere do they?

Just one thing though, if the kids dad bought a wireless connection to my (yea my again) network and the network is mine, name and all; who does the router really belong to?

On the up and up x-husband will get the router back or I'll give it to the kid, what use does a 13 year old have for a router?

Well anyhow I really don't see a big difference other than there's not a bunch of cords going from the router to the computers. You might say it looks a little less 'office like' in here now.

So what do you want to talk about? I keep spilling my guts about my computer stuff and all, any feed back?

Vista?

The rumors turned out to be true. Microsoft will release a public beta this week of its next desktop operating system, Windows 7, hoping it will address the problems that have made Windows Vista perhaps the least popular OS in its history. original source

I have read that windows 7 is no better or worse than Vista, just the same program under a different name. Vista is good, Vista is fine, Vista is what you need... then they change the name to protect the innocent.

Yes, this is comedy

looking for

Now this is absolutely crazy

call me crazy, horny or sexist or what have you, but in a search for a picture on my hard drive that I got off the web to begin(as I could not upload any pictures from my hd) with brought me to these pics. About 42 pages of google image search, then started the search again with slightly different key words took me to all these shots and I still have not found the one I was looking for.
mind you the name of the file is unchanged on my hard drive, (jelly white miro bikini)
The one I was looking for was a cute girl in a micro bikini, nothing overly revealing just a nice looking gal sitting in the sun in a white bikini
I went through tons of pics, some more revealing than some seen here for what I thought would be a very popular picture, especially among young men. Just goes to show, if you find it you might not find it again.
Well just to show I am not all that sexist, thought I would include this picture too
and after nearly 100 pages of images I never did find the one I was looking for.

failure

So here we are, malware scan, unsuccessful to fix the problem, restart and still have a problem, assuming this is a problem in my computer, system restore will help out as the problem just started today and restore to a date the system worked will fix the problem. So I restore the system to Dec 31, only available restore date, I am still having problems with the picture upload on blogger leads me to one conclusion; the is a temporary setback with blogger. Had these, well not exactly these, problems before, just a time thing, wait for the blogger to start working as it should again soon, till then, I can't upload any images from my hard disc. Oh Well!

Pirate's dillema

Restarted Firefox and still get an error on any picture I upload on blogger from my files. First thought is restart the system, but not thinking that would help I have started a virus scan, free and online at this source , so the scan is running, I click the results tab to see what it has found. CRYPT_FEAV-9 is the file it found. Trendmicro tells me there is no other information available on this Malware. I did a short google on the file and sure enough nothing was found. Now one question does cross my mind. Am I left with a false sense of security using a free anti-virus like AVG? I do allot of "on the edge" searches; pushing the limits so to speak as the average personal computer owner goes. Yes I have dabbled in the not so respected "pirate program" field. In doing so I put myself at risk, and more than once have payed for it in needing to 'format' or reinstall windows. Starting over, all data lost.
This may seem like a simple task, but requires going back over all the basics in windows. Re-establish my internet connection, color and font setting in appearance, re-connecting my net work, the whole 9 yards. So I am considering actually paying for something I think I should get for free. Oh my f-in- god, did you hear that? The one with Pirate in his name is going to pay for something.
Well, the scan has finished, found one other, seemingly related Malware, TROJ_EAV.EAV, had the scan automatically clean the infections and am not waiting to restart my system and see if this may have been the trouble with blogger uploading images from my hard drive. Give me about 5 minutes, I will be back.

coicedence?

So this is what we are going to use to determine "The End"?
Seems a bit far fetched; we will see what happens.

Not one to put all my eggs in one basket;

The best get rich scheme I can think of

Chrysler gets $4bn emergency loan

Dodge Ram trucks sit parked outside a Chrysler factory in Fenton, Missouri.
Chrysler's problems have put thousands of US jobs at risk

The huge American carmaker Chrysler has received a $4bn (£2.75bn) emergency loan from the US government in a deal to help it stave off collapse.

It is part of a $13.4bn rescue package approved last month by Washington for Chrysler and its rival General Motors.

Both companies said they needed the money to pay suppliers at a time of plunging sales and credit concerns.

ok listen and listen well; We all want to be millionaires right? well I am about to tell you how you can be a millionair (and you don't need to play some stupid reality tv game)

Just announce to the presedent that you are an automobile manufacturer and you get a divy of the big thing.

Did you say Camelot?

Too many funny scenes in this movie to call any one "the funniest"

crazy as I am

Of the pages I frequent, Ciclops remains of the best when looking for information on the Cassini mission. Site always has a way of including the best pics with text easily understood. A wealth of knowledge and information. That being said...

Imagine, if you could, the gas giant Saturn, through a freak of nature (or simply the natural way of the universe) burst into flames, hot flames, as a thermonuclear explosion; rather than poof, becomes a star .... the some 64 moons are now miniplanets, the ring system becomes the asteroid belt. There, we now have a inner-system solar system (stole this idea from Arthur Clarke but he used jupiter as the star/planet)
or plan b) take the internal heat of the planet, meaning there is compression in action. Saturn in the not so emediate future (talking 10's of thousands of years) solidifies into a terrestial planet rather than a gas giant...
theory: as all the gas giants (jupiter, saturn, uranis, neptune) having rings; all the gas giants have a moon with Enceladus properties as in giant giesers feeding said rings
or
I see stars...
note that was taken from 2001: a space odyssey

my imagination is getting away from me now

ever seen a japanese beetle? and ... do you agree with me all; I said all insects look like space ships... home could be Enceladus?

mind has totally run amok, I better stop now...

Joke Time

A redneck family from the hills was visiting the city and they were in a mall for the first time in their lives. The father and son were strolling around while the wife shopped. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and then slide back together again.
The boy asked, "Paw, What's 'at?" The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I dunno. I ain't never seen anything like that in my entire life, I ain't got no idea'r what it is." While the boy and his father were watching with amazement, a fat old lady walked up to the moving walls and pressed a button.
The walls opened and the lady walked between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched the small circular numbers above the walls light up sequentially. They continued to watch until it reached the last number and then the numbers began to light in the reverse order. Then the walls opened up again and a gorgeous, voluptuous 24-year-old blonde woman stepped out. The father, not taking his eyes off the young woman, said quietly to his son,
"Boy, go git yer Momma...."
