The Saga Continues

The saga all started last winter. With my "end of year bonus" I payed to get the water pump on Green Monster fixed. This included new water pump and timing belt (had to take t belt off so might as well put a new one in) and (still a problem now) hook up the cooling fan to the electric. Well the cooling fan ended up being a bigger problem than I thought it would be. Burning up the ignition switch, being hooked straight into the electric system, so a toggle switch was installed on the dash; costing me another $50 plus tow. The toggle worked out, for a bit, but when warmer weather came and I used the air conditioner that over loaded the toggle and it stopped working, switch was replaced with a similar one which worked fine until I turned the a/c on and that switch went out too. I stopped to see an old high school friend here in town with his own collision garage; who wondered why they didn't fix it the way it should have been done.
So essentially I am back to the beginning, before the water pump went out, I was having a problem with the cooling fan switch, and still I am having a cooling fan problem. Time to find a new garage.

One of the Best

I'm gonna take a stab and say 79. Probably the coolest Muscle Car America ever made.
I just went up to the store for 'stuff' and there it sat in the parking lot. Now I have heard from mechanic/car buff friends say the Corvette after 1974 was turned into a wimp for all the emission reduction but I still say this was the best looking one they made. If memory serves, the Vette retained its Stingray image for some years, say 65-79. Back in 67 they came out with the 'fast back' and I think it was 79 they came out with the same rear windshield. I personally think the newer ones look like every other car on the road (what ever happened to the flip up head lights) gotta have those if you have a sports car. The latest model does look similar to the last Camaro Chevy came out with before butting that one to rest. Of the 2 images the bottom is the Corvette
So you ask; "Neo, why don't you own one?" Well truth be told, I think spending that kind of money on a vehicle is rather silly. I'll stick to my Green Beast.

Cars

A little toned down as it was the year of the charcoal filter and other such "eco enhancing, burn the fuel twice technology; but simply has to be my favorite of all American cars. I was thinking of getting you excited for me and was gonna tell you I was picking up the new vehicle tomorrow, haha...
But I won't do that, like I have told you in the past I am not "into" any group, organization or alliance having to do with high powered high performance autos but I have just simply always loved this car. Come to think of it there were some older cars that I really liked.

want to have. Maybe in Corvette yellow or grey. This is the one that really had some juice, no polution controls to take the power. Looks very similar but are separated by about 6 years. To think, to this day I have never driven or even taken a ride in a Corvette. Been in a Chevelle with a 396 big block, been on a Harley (rider of course)
I have owned one "muscle car"; was a 1978 Olds Cutlass Supreme, 305, headers, 4 barrel, split hi performance exhaust and all the stuff. Would have been nice to have that car with a 350 and all the fixins but would have been hard to stay off the 4 barrel.
Sucked gas like (no problem I'll just get more tomorrow). But actually (I know its poor gramar to start a sentence with 'but') the best car I had, or should I phrase that my favorite car was my 78 Camaro. Not much under the hood, had a 250 inline 6 and a wimpy 2 barrell... but it got good mpg, had a 3 speed on the floor and when push came to shove that little machine would up and get it. When it came to repairs, man, that motor is the best, small, lots of room to work and never went out bad or died, change the valve cover gasket and the side panel gaskit and run another 120 k miles. I suspect GM discontinued that motor because it didn't break down and didn't bring in an after sale market.


Talk about a gap... Went car shopping with my daughter a few months back; we looked at a Tiburon, I drove it and didn't particularly like the small shift lever... was a real problem getting into 2nd gear. We were at a used lot, I said well lets have a look at what they have here. I sat in a nice Sunbird said "Jas, take a look at this one." Had a stick shift, which is what she wanted, she came over, close enough to see inside, and said, "no way, I am not doing crank windows" I'm sitting there, like geeze, it don't got electric window so you just simply dis it? kids today, what gives?

For MsP

MsPirate's Blazer had some troubles (not like my Probe though) geeze, that Ford is about at the end of my patience... but that's another story. The inside door panel came off and the driver's door needs a new handle and bushing. I took the car out today and a friend who owns a collision shop put the panel back on and checked prices for me to get the rest done. This is tne nice part. For $150 I will get the rest of the door fixed up next weekend. Its nice to know people in the auto collision trade. Now as for my Pitiful Ford Probe... every time I go to get the darn piece of ... ford, it won't start (this is where I start pulling my hair out) First I hear the ignition switch is burnt and needs replaced, get it back, drive it down to my shop to check on something, come back and park where MsP's blazer is to go home, go with MsP to get Ford and again won't start, have to go talk with Mechanic again... Leave the key with him and well have to wait till Monday to have the guy look again. This is getting old real fast. About to tell the guy, if you can't fix it how bout you tell me about someone who can?

So now Ms Pirate got that nice blazer we got an extra vehicle sitting around the parking lot, and a friend that knows we don't need it but only asks to 'borrow' it sometimes. Now I am not being to critical here but I would think he might offer to take the rolling freezer off our hands. The blower is out, no heat, no defrost, if it entails blowing air the only thing tlhat works is the 2/60 aircon. Not the hottest thing you'll ever drive but it goes, has space and Joe's job (names have been changed to protect the innocent) is one that requires a utility vehicle. Not sticking my nose in another's business but... (senario set up) Joe has 2 vehicles, Joe can only affod 1 vehicle, Joe owns a Dodge utility vehicle and a GM fun vehicle (namely a chevy monte with Jeff Gordon's name painted on it) Well take a guess at which one he decided to sell?

Why else would he need to borrow our van?





I do see the point though; the Monte Carlo is a limited edition collector but honestly, this could almost be sized up as a carpenter giving away his only hammer.

I am just thinking of course... Lets just say for example; I am a well rounded musician, I have a bass guitar and a 6 string guitar. I get a job as a lead guitarist; I need some money, does it make more sense to sell the Fender Strat or the Fender Jazz Bass? It just baffles my mind how some people think. ok I'm done with the pictures now.
