My picks today

Game Day again. Still holding to my vows, never again be the fan of a bunch of losers. Mind you, Atlanta is not the team I am referring to. Falcon / Seahawk, duh obviously Falcon will win. I mean look at the facts; Falcons hunt mice rodents and fish, the Seahawk, fish only.... Seahawks, pale, light blue to gray, blend in... Falcon, bight, red in color, stands out, no need for camouflage. Obviously, the Falcon is more aggressive than the Seahawk. Even the name as it rolls off the tongue,  sounds more aggressive. Not being one to follow the stats and all I'm gonna call this one, low scoring, say the end product will be:

Seattle  14

 lets see what happens, kick off is at est 4:00 pm duh, am is too early.

Oh, I am in Cinci... home game is blacked out... do I care? Mike Brown please sell the football team so I can become a home team fan again. 

We Are the Champions

Well, in the days of old, long ago, etc etc... I would actually watch and enjoy basketball. Just doesn't swish my basket anymore. I do think the game is a more "live" action game. I remember one time in high school, I was up in the bleachers during a practice looking. The game seemed to have a more pattern; as I could watch the way the play was set up and not keep my attention on where the ball was going. It was interesting to notice. After that I would catch the games during March Madness; then not being up on stats, records, wins and losses I was a bit at a loss of who was going where and who would win, lose or tie. Sorta follow the 'home' teams. University of Cincinnati was usually in the mix and University of Kentucky was there as well. Of the two I would put my 'money' on UC but not following the season or knowing what the odds of each were I was rather mifffed by the whole count. Sweet 16 down to the fantastic 4 or what ever they called it. I would try to stay with the games to the end. Usually drop the ball when those 2 were out of the hunt. I never 'filled out boxes' or had money riding, I would just watch for the sake of fandom. I always seemed to be at a loss "at the water fountain" in the mornings. I just never understood what the fascination with a silly game could be.
         Basketball almost reminds me of watching golf. Now I know at least one of my readers is into golf, and I think it to be a wonderful game of outdoor fun and activity. I just never saw it as being a spectator sport. It is not a fast paced game, there are no cheerleaders (which is what the guys like) This seems to be the problem with baseball as well; and the score is a bit backward. I have been told watching golf is to improve the technique of the swing, the stance, the swing and the follow through; I don't know, I worked on a golf course for a few years and golfers (they don't call them footballers or basketballers) seem to be people of hate. I swear, the few times I was hit by a ball, it was intentional. Aimed and picked! Tell me Doug, do you ever aim at the employees?

Harang leads Reds over Cardinals 8-3

CINCINNATI (AP) — Aaron Harang pitched seven innings and had a bases-loaded single during Cincinnati's decisive rally, a birthday bash that gave the Reds an 8-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday and their best record in three years.

Harang (3-3) had many good moments on his 31st birthday, none better than the awkward swing that produced his first hit of the season in the sixth. Cincinnati sent nine batters to the plate for five runs off Kyle Lohse (3-2) in the inning, blowing open a tie game.

With their third straight win, the Reds moved four games over .500 (17-13) for the first time since 2006.

The Reds have won their last three despite missing most of their starting infield. Third baseman Edwin Encarnacion has a broken wrist, shortstop Alex Gonzalez has pulled muscles in his side, and second baseman Brandon Phillips and first baseman Joey Votto have been sidelined by the flu.

Phillips was back in the lineup on Saturday, but Votto — the Reds' leading hitter at .378 — was still sick.

Harang gave up three runs — two earned — and struck out seven. Ryan Ludwick hit a two-run homer off him in the third.

Jay Bruce had a two-run shot off Lohse, who let a 2-all tie slip away quickly in the sixth. Laynce Nix and Ramon Hernandez singled home runs, and the Reds loaded the bases with two outs for Harang, an .079 career hitter who was 0 for 13 this season.

Harang took an off-balance, stiff-armed swing at Lohse's first pitch and lined it to left field to drive in two more runs. He smacked his hands together in celebration at first base, then stood there trying to subdue a smile.

Jerry Hairston Jr. also homered for the Reds, who have scored six, six and eight runs the last three games with their makeshift lineup.

Lohse has had his two worst starts back-to-back. He gave up six runs in 4 1-3 innings of a 6-1 loss to Philadelphia on Monday, and allowed seven runs in six innings against the Reds. Cincinnati had six hits and a walk off him in the decisive sixth inning.

Notes:@ Albert Pujols failed to reach base for the second straight game. The first baseman had reached base in each of the Cardinals' first 28 games. He's 0 for 8 with a pair of strikeouts in the series. ... The Reds gave away Votto bobbleheads, drawing their first capacity crowd since opening day. ... Gonzalez worked out before the game. Manager Dusty Baker said a decision will be made "pretty soon" on whether to put him on the DL. Gonzalez hurt his left side on a swing last Monday. ... Bruce and Willy Taveras both extended their hitting streaks to 10 games, the longest on the Reds this season.

A fireman tackles the drinks machine

The top seeds, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, finally found their best form in the extreme heat at the Australian Open tennis final in Melbourne today, but were severely hampered when, during a break between games, their racquets caught fire.

With Federer leading the match at 4-2 in the first set, and the temperature at an energy-sapping 45 °C, Nadal's raquet started smouldering, and after a few seconds, it suddenly burst into flames. The Spaniard, looking shocked, rose, but as he did so, Federer's bat also caught fire, and the players and officials fled the court.

Emergency fire crews were on the scene within minutes, but by that time, the blaze had already spread to the drinks machine and the umpire's chair. Nadal's tracksuit was already 'a goner', as were the superb quality towels provided by the organisers. Some spectators were also on fire.

Several of those spectators were treated for smoke-inhalation, but were later seen eating the delicious strawberries and cream which, because they were being sold outside the courts, were unaffected by the incident.

Who cares who the winner eventually was? Not me. Tennis is rubbish.

Memory lane, though before my time

1958: The Colts came flying out of the gate winning their first 6 games; on the way to a 9-1 start that had sewn up the Western Division Title. However the Colts would limp into the NFL Championship game after losing their final 2 games of the season. On December 28th the Colts prepared to face the New York Giants in the NFL Championship game at Yankee Stadium, as nationwide TV audience settled in for their first true glance at a NFL Championship Game. For years the NFL had toiled in local markets without national attention, while trying to get itself in to America's consciousness. Throughout the 50's the NFL had grown, but the growth had not made it into mass appeal yet. The NFL only hoped this game would help in attaining that goal. The Colts went to halftime with a 14-3 lead after scoring 2 TDs in the 2nd Quarter. However the Giants would come back, and take a 17-14 lead, as Colts PK Steve Myhra missed 2 FGs. With time winding down Johnny Unitas brought the Colts down field, setting up Myhra for a 20-yard FG that tied the game with 7 seconds left. The 4th Quarter would end tied a 17, meaning the NFL would have to use overtime for the first time ever. The rule was simple, who scored first won and when the Giants got the ball first the Colts knew they must stop them. The Colts defense rose to the occasion forcing the Giants to punt after just 3 plays. The Colts would get the ball, but after Unitas lost 8 yards on a sack the drive looked stalled at 3rd and 15. However Unitas would hit WR Raymond Berry with a clutch pass that gave the Colts a 1st down in Giants territory. The Colts continued to drive down the field until a Unitas pass set them up on the 1-yard line first and goal. Not content with a FG Unitas handed off to Alan Ameche who dove across the goal line to give the Colts a 23-17 win, in what many called the greatest game ever. The game would serve as a launching point, and was the start of the NFL's remarkable boom in popularity.

Names

Thinking of the buy outs in the NFL, and names and what should change. I was glad to see the Oilers change their name to the Titans (where did they get that name from? I would have said the Tennessee Hill Jacks or something like that) but on with the post, you see the name of the team actually has a meaning.

• New England Patriots (duh)
• Pittsburgh Steelers (duh again)
• Cincinnati Bengals (have one of the greatest Bengal collection at the Cincinnati Zoo)
• Miami Dolphins (where would you find dolphins)

These are just a few of the examples. So you can see why I am not thrilled with the name choice of Arizona. Are there really Cardinals in Arizona, I know there are Road Runners and Coyotes...

I think North Carolina could have done better too. How many Panthers are you gonna see in
North Carolina? help me here, shouldn't they be the Sheriff Taylors or Barney Fifes ? Maybe a historic name like the Kitty Hawks?

Birds

Can you believe, the birds beat up on the cats. In a pitiful display the Panthers went down 33-13 against the Arizona Cardinals last night. Hold the phone a minute, Arizona Cardinals?? Stop me if I'm ranting here but Arizona needs to change the name of the team. Originally the St Louis Cardinals, and where did they get that name? The Cardinal is the the Missouri State bird. Yes Arizona bought the team but shouldn't there be a name change here? Would be like Maine buying the Dolphins and keeping the name. Which do you think fits:

1. The Arizona Desert Dogs
2. The Arizona Cactus Spears
3. The Arizona Coyotes (remember what the Road Runner did to him every weekend)
4. The Arizona Road Runners (may be some trade mark issues here)
5. Leave the name The Cardinals (as lame as that is)
6. Don't waste my time, I don't care
   

And why all the sudden are the NFL teams being named for states? Arizona, North Carolina, Tennessee, what happened to city names? but any how...
Coming down to the wire, and when the Eagles take the Giants this afternoon and win, we will have a bird brawl next week end.

The other side of the bracket looks hopeless. Ravens are on the way, just need to beat who ever comes up on them, and we will have a fight of birds in the Superbowl.

My prediction (and mind you I predicted the Panthers to win last night)

Defeat

Sad foot note here, UC got pulverized in the Orange Bowl. Which is not so surprising to us here in Cincinnati. Home of the Beloved Bungles, who by the way unfortunately won their last 3 to leave a good taste with fans, and therefore will not force Mike Brown to hire a General Manager (this is far off the beaten path of this post.) so anyway. Still the Bearcats did make it to the Championship and I will commend them at least on that. Better luck next year, walking away defeated 20-7 sounds like they have some work to do.

kick off tonight

Well duh on me. Seems to have slipped through my fingers and here we are on game day
and I have not even mentioned the University of Cincinnati Bearcats are in a Bowl game to be played on Fox Sports tonight a 8 pm.

This is the first season Cincinnati has been in this Conference of colleges including the larger state universities and come out as real champions (regardless of the outcome of tonight's game)

In the shadows to most here in Cincinnati to the NFL and our Beloved Bungles this Orange Bowl seems to have gone unnoticed or maybe that's just me. Hats off to The Bearcats. Didn't O'bama refer to them as the Bearcubs? or could that have been the Beercats? Bear in mind he has still only visited 57 states

I am much more upbeat about the performance of the Bearcats than I have been this season about our Beloved Bungles. So there still is a little sports excitement here in the Queen City.

Neo here with your play by play, our beloved Bungles have marched down the field and like the champions they can be got to the 32 yard line and were held on 4th down thus turning the ball over to the Chiefs

Not devastating as the Chiefs couldn't do anything with the ball and punted back to Cincinnati
Bungles march back down the field, help to 4th down on Chiefs 30 some and make a field goal, 3-0 Bungles

Chiefs stopped again, punt back to the Bungles. Bungles fail to get any thing with this one and punt back to the Chiefs

and so goes the saga of a team that can appear to be tough, organized and actually win a game or two*, Our beloved

This weekend we shall march on the field, our mascot shall include the orange with black stripes, as we have shown to have a will to win rather than coming out under the white tiger mascot as to say "I surrender", hmmm, isn't that a song?
but any how...
Though we have miserably failed to break the drive for five, we might just come away with a 4 win season (geeze thats pitiful)
And don't forget, we did have a tie with the Eagles.
with no one else to pin this debunkle on, we will agree its George Bush's fault.

yea I know you fans are sick of this stuff but time again for a little team spirit some partying and lots of disappointment. Our mighty Bungle cubs are all geared up to lose another battle. I would call it a game, but honestly fans, is this really going to classify as a "game"? Trust me here fans, I have total and complete respect for our guys in stripes, but this is a professional team we are up against this week. Chad, do me a favor and drop the f'in ocho shit. You are Chad, that is what your birth certificate has printed out on it, forget the spotlight, play ball like a pro and the glitz and glimour will come. Fitzy, you did good, but honestly I want to see Carson do what he does best. Carson, now that I do have your attention, who cares if it hurts a little, play like a pro.
Hushy, you are the outstanding member in this club, just do what it is you do and maybe some some streak of luck we might be able to pull this one off.

Well fans, looks like its almost game time, should we be able to call this a game is yet to be seen. I like the Colts so this one day of the NFL season I am rooting for the other guys, sorry about that Bungles, but I am still behind you 100%.

my bad

well slap me silly! I thought the Bungles were going to play (and lose ) today, they just did that Thursday night in Pittsburgh. Oh well, did come to my attention however that some do not know who the Bungles are, so I included a link to better define "our beloved Bungles". Fret not, as the post will remain up as the Bungles will lose that game. Yes those are White Bengal Tiger kittens, Cincinnati has a few of them at the Cincinnati Zoo (born in captivity). Well I think the kittens are now tigers as it has been a while. Anyhow, the bungles are scheduled to lose next Sunday, I take full responsibility for the mess up... I should pay closer attention to the sports schedule.

coff coff coff, its game day again

Ok fans, coff coff... hello is anyone there? Oh shit I must be a dieing breed known as a bungles fan. Note the new cats, white... as in I surrender before I even get there. Well here we are on game day again. ready to lose yet another one. Ocho Sinko or what ever he goes by is going to be in this one and yet I still am not confident they will achieve what they are out there to do, WIN! I don't mean to sound dicouraging but look at the record. The one win they got was by luck, not a stellar performance in anyway. I really don't have it in my plan book to watch them. Its just depressing. Have you seen? The suicide rate here in Cincinnati has taken a slight rise. Sales at the bungle wear dept in the store has taken a steep drop and the only ones at the game will be the ones with nothing better to do with thier time. Geeze, this was supposed to be fan blog but I can't in my right mind find a single thing to say positive for the Bungles. Oh yes I can... one win, a by week and tie, no loses in 3 weeks, woo hoo... who dey who dey who dey
Any Eagles fans out there? Don't you feel stupid, couldn't even beat the Bungles like you should have. I may watch the game after all, but this is going to take some heavy drinking and yea I'll smoke a few too.

Mike Brown please

Ever been frustrated over something you had no control over?  I claim to be a Bungles fan, I will root for the home team week after week.  The answer is simple, Mike Brown, please hire a professional to run your team.  Its not that big of a deal, lossing or just not winning week after week, something has to change.  New coaches don't help, and the players seem to be talented at thier art. Long ago when the pink elephant statium was built funded by tax payer dollars Mike promised to give us a competetive football team.  I have lived up my end of the promise ( if the best you can do is 500 that is not a competetive football team)  Mike Brown, please either sell the team to someone who wants to win, or hire a gm that will manage the team like they are winners.  Football is about the only tv I watch; I would like to see my team win a game more than lose a game

Are the beloved Bungles going to pull it off this week?  Following by week and against a team defeated last week attitude can't be the excuse, reason and or cause.  Now the game is going somewhat well, defense looking impressive?  Or is the opposing offfense showing to be unimpressive?  

Only tv in the place here is in the kids room, I am darting in and out to check on the game

Cincinnati while doing ok defensively is not on the game plan with the offense.  3 and out is all they can seem to get together on.

Cinci recovers a fumble down to the 1 yard line, quarter is over, no score, 

Hushmanzata made a couple of good catches, gets them near midfield but end up having to punt again.  This is pitiful... When is Mike Brown going to hire a professional to run this team 

 Recover a fumble, 1/2 a yard from the goal line and have to settle for 3 ... like I said,

Is there anyway I can do a shotgun with a beer bottle, I need some releife.  Maybe if I pray hard enough we can win this one by a point or 2

Bungles get the ball back, :38 left on game clock in first half.  Fitzpatrick to Hushy 26 yard td catch.   10-3 

Eagles hurry to get ball back to the Bungles 40 yard line, next pass is intercepted by the Bungles, leading 10-3 at the half time break.

ok so the Bungles have managed to be the winner at half time question now is will they come out on the field for the second half with the same team that was there for the first half.

Second half started, last score I saw was 13-10,  missed the opening of the half and now I have been kicked off the tv...  will keep you posted as I can.

Eagles get a field goal, tie up in the 4th quarter, game went ot with no more score, 1st tie game since 2002, well at least the Bungles didn't lose coff coff

Well one thing I can say for today, the Bengals won't lose this week. No game, lets me relax a little better.  Not that life is a football game but I gets a bit frustrating waiting and wondering which Bengals team we are putting on the field.  There is the team that has confidence and is on the field for one reason and one reason only... to win a football game.  Then there's the team that just goes out and just goes through the actions of playing a football game and really doesn't seeem to care if they lose.  In fact in the one game that we did win, I think we had both teams with us.  2nd half of that came was near disaster.  At half time if you are winning 14-3 you should be able to finish that game with more than a 2 point difference in scores.  Looks like the Bungles are in the game again in the 2nd half.   Wlhen are these guys gonna tell Mike Brown he doesn't do well at manageing this team and its about time to hire in a General Manager that knows football how to disipline his players and get a competetive team on the field.  We have that talent, even our second string Quarterback is rather impressive.  And you can't tell me that octo- sinco or Chad guy forgot how to run a rout and catch the ball.  If I was anyone I would demand this team improve!  My tax dollars are paying for that pink elephant of a stadium!  I demand some thing better, I am sick of watching the Bungles lose lose lose.  What a failure Mike Brown has really turned into.  Wait, let me rephrase that,  he has never been anything but a failure.  

Therefore you will notice my new banner for the Bungles, rather than a dangerous looking angry orange bengal tiger we are now the very tame looking tiger kitten, white as in I surrender!
